The Tangke Volunteers
You read it right. It is Tangke, not Tangled.
Although the story unfolding on this page is not a lot different than the stuff of magic and fairy tales.
Let us meet Dr. Risty Dequit, the woman behind the grassroots movement's conception, mobilization, organization, ultramarathon - wait, what? Okay, maybe not that (yet).
Basically every bit of rock that make the core foundation of this organization is rooted to her passion for social service. Although, just between you and me, she may say otherwise. If asked about the group she spearheads, Dr. Risty would say they are not born from the thought of one person. This organization carry more than one name, and as evidence would have it, is definitely stronger than one label. They are a humble team that simply arises when they are needed, who leave the security of their homes for the protection of the vulnerable, made of men and women who wish to do exactly as they say - volunteer.
These are members of a community that saw the suffering of the people within their quaint town, heard the cries of their neighbors, and felt the emptiness of those who walk their streets in the incessant search for a place to call homes. These are the individuals who mobilize out of concern, out of volition, out of inert human compassion.
These are citizens so humbled by their awareness of our societal struggles that they wish not be called with any decorated name. Outside of the bureaucracies that often constrict man's desire to help, arose The Tangke Volunteers. This fluid, organic, and home-grown humanitarian mix is the healing elixir the community of Tangke, Talisay City needed and will always have.
